Marathon village, school officials discuss growing pains
Marathon City village and school officials expressed a mix of concern and guarded optimism about the area’s ongoing growth spurt during a joint meeting last week. At several points during the 90-minute meeting, members of the two boards seemed to stake out slightly different positions on the issue of growth within the village and the school district.

WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – According to a WalletHub survey released this week, Wisconsin’s public school systems rank fifth out of all 50 states. The study considered several dozen quality and safety-related indicators, including graduation rates, test scores, and student-to-teacher ratios. According to the study, Wisconsin ranked in the top five in several testing areas, including math scores, median SAT scores, and dropout rates.

However, one local church is addressing this issue by expanding options within their community. Lincoln County Retired Educators Is Accepting Scholarship Applications
The Lincoln County Retired Educators will award two scholarships this year. One will go to a Merrill High School graduate and one to a Tomahawk High School graduate. Applicants must be in the School of Education, be a Junior or Senior, and intend to teach in Wisconsin. Applications are available by emailing [email protected] for Merrill and [email protected] for Tomahawk. For Merrill applicants, applications must be returned by email by Aug. 18, 2024, and the recipient of the award will be notified by Aug. 25. For Tomahawk applicants, applications must be returned by email by Aug. 29, and the recipient will be notified by Aug. 31.

Rennes Group awarded its third annual Rennes Group scholarship to D.C. Everest High School senior, Kyleigh Grahn.
