Greater Waco YMCA to unveil over $8M in upgrades

WACO, Texas ( FOX 44 ) – The Greater Waco YMCA will be unveiling $8.47 million in upgrades to its facility on Harvey Drive.

YMCA of Central Texas leadership, along with Greater Waco YMCA board and staff members, will be joined by invited guests and donors for a special ribbon-cutting ceremony showcasing these enhancements. New amenities offered at the Waco Y include a gymnastics gymnasium, cycle studio and fitness floor. New ChildWatch spaces provide age-appropriate rooms for infants, toddlers and a Kidzone for preteens.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony and donor tour will take place from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Greater Waco YMCA, located at 6800 Harvey Drive. Select guests include YMCA of Central Texas President and CEO Jeff Andresen, Greater Waco YMCA Board Chair Theo Watson and Capital Campaign & Strategic Planning Chair, Greater Waco YMCA Capital Campaign & Strategic Planning Chair Josh Deaton.

The organization says this exciting, new Extraco Land boasts a family-friendly recreation area, inspired by the city of Waco. The experiential indoor playground includes an Extraco Bank, police and fire departments, a church, campground, restaurant, grocery store, construction site and a Baylor University school house.

Greater Waco YMCA seeks volunteers to fill backpacks

Additional upgrades include the remodeled fitness floor, which increases the number of activities and size of classes. The remodeled therapy pool, made possible by the Cooper Foundation, provides a nice location for swim lessons, birthday parties and warm-water exercise classes for senior swimmers.

The organization says these upgrades were conducted in two phases and completed in under a year.
