Ham at room temp, spoiled chicken. What Eaton County inspectors found

CHARLOTTE — When county health inspectors visit local restaurants, they document problems that need addressing to meet standards set by Michigan food codes and law. The most serious problems are considered priority violations, which present potential health hazards and should be corrected immediately. Priority foundation violations do not present immediate health hazards but should be corrected in a timely manner. Consequently, follow-up inspections and reports may be generated. In most cases, violations are corrected, and this information isn't an indication that violations at any establishment are an ongoing issue. Here are the most serious violations found in Eaton County restaurants and eating establishments for October Three priority violations and two priority foundation violations were found at: KPOT Korean BBQ & Hot Pot, 5924 W. Saginaw Hwy., Lansing There were temperature issues with miso soup and seafood sauce. Several containers of cut leafy greens such aslettuce, bok choy, cabbage, spinach, and items such as corn cobs and cooked taro root were sitting out in a prep area at room temperature, ranging between 53 and 60 degrees, instead of 41 degrees and below. CHARLOTTE — Sixteen eating establishment in Eaton County received no violations during routine inspections in October. The Barry-Eaton District Health Department inspects a variety of local establishments to identify issues that could contribute to the spread of foodborne illness and to ensure their general cleanliness and maintenance. Eaton County election results: New road work tax, EATRAN renewal OK'd

CHARLOTTE — Eaton County voters approved a pair of transportation-related ballot proposals on Tuesday, Nov. 3. About 53% of voters favored a road maintenance millage that will replace an expiring tax for rebuilding and rehabilitating county local roads, with 27,093 yes votes compared to 24,054 no. A public transportation proposal was approved by 67% of county voters, 34,101 yes to 17,158 no, for a five-year renewal of the 0.25-mill property tax supporting the Eaton County Transportation Authority, better known as EATRAN. New road maintenance proposal passes The road tax proposal asked for 1.5 mills for 10 years, roughly the same as what property owners already are paying under the old tax, which expires at the end of this year. First-time voter Payton Edick, 18, who lives in Eaton Township, on Tuesday said he felt strongly about supporting the proposal "because our dirt roads are garbage." Revenue from the new tax will have broader uses, including culverts, bridges and other necessary work on county local roads, with the focus on preventative maintenance.
