WALDPORT — A tiny Waldport shop is ready to satisfy big cravings for sweets, thanks to a local couple’s new venture. “JillyBeanz” is the name of the cozy, bright blue store scheduled to open Friday in the former home of Mark’s Caramel popcorn, right next to Fresh Mexican restaurant on U.S. Highway 101. With its menu of “ice cream, sweets and cozy treats,” the 277-square-foot shop will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily except Wednesdays.
Newport and Lincoln City hospitals sign agreement with Life Flight for patient ambulance transport into valley
The two hospitals in Lincoln County have apparently found a solution to the problem of transporting patients in need of a higher-level care to and from the Willamette Valley. After 18 months of searching, the Samaritan Health Services-affiliated hospitals announced an agreement this week with Life Flight Network to provide ground ambulance transport for patients. The service is expected to begin within 90 days.
Firefighters extinguish field fire southeast of Philomath
Philomath Fire and Rescue had a busy stretch Thursday afternoon with responses to separate incidents, the local fire agency reported. Firefighters were called at 3:14 p.m. Sept. 21 to a report of a fire that had ignited in a field near Hurlburt Road, which is located about 20 miles southeast of Philomath and 16 miles north of Monroe. The fire was estimated at 4 acres in size and was contained to the field.
