Coffee with a Deputy in Siletz
The next Coffee with a Deputy event with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office will take place on Wednesday, April 24, from 8 to 10 a.m. at Little Chief Restaurant, located at 210 N Gaither St. in Siletz. Every three months, the sheriff’s office partners with a local coffee shop to provide a time, space, and coffee for community members to share what’s on their minds. It offers people a chance to directly engage with law enforcement, ask questions, voice concerns, and build positive relationships. Whether you’re a regular coffee drinker or simply curious about the work of law enforcement, this is a chance to connect with deputies on a personal level, learn about each other’s experiences, and share local feedback.

Bridge work underway
Restoration work is underway on the historic Rocky Creek Bridge, also known as the Ben Jones Bridge, located near the north end of Otter Crest Loop. The bridge was built in 1927. According to a project summary on the Oregon Department of Transportation website, “We’re replacing the system that helps prevent the metal from rusting. This is known as cathodic protection. 'Largest Cascadia drill ever' on Oregon coast set for Newport Airport in May
NEWPORT, Ore. — In the largest exercise of its kind ever on the Oregon coast, Lincoln County Emergency Management, in partnership with the Oregon Department of Human Services’ Office of Resilience and Emergency Management (OREM), City of Newport, Scappoose Fire District, Life Flight, Team Rubicon, and the United States Coast Guard, will host a two-day exercise to introduce and train first responders and volunteers in the deployment of the newest Evacuation Assembly Point (EAP), housed at the Newport Municipal Airport.

Fire crews in Polk County respond to 2-alarm barn fire east of Dallas
Fire crews in Polk County put out a two-alarm barn fire Wednesday morning on Briedwell Road east of Dallas. The fire was reported at 9:21 a.m. Crews from Southwest Polk Fire District, Dallas Fire and Polk County Fire District No. 1 responded with six engines and two water tenders to the farm where the barn was totally engulfed in flames.
Fire District extinguishes early morning Monmouth fire
The Polk County Fire District No. 1 was dispatched to a report of an apartment fire with a possible trapped victim April 19 at 8:07 a.m. According to PCFD, units arrived on the scene at 8:11 a.m. with smoke and flames showing from an upstairs apartment on Clay Street in Monmouth. The apartment occupant met firefighters outside and reported that she had been alone in the apartment with her two dogs, one of which had run out of the apartment with her. Nobody else was inside the apartment.
