Lucas County organizations launch Click It or Ticket campaign
More than 400 Ohio drivers who lost their lives in 2023 weren’t wearing seatbelts, which is why continuing to encourage motorists to use the lifesaving device is imperative, said Sgt. Ryan Purpura, spokesman for the Ohio State Highway Patrol. To keep the death toll in vehicular accidents down during the summer season, several Lucas County organizations, including the Toledo Lucas County Health Department and the city of Toledo, kicked off their Click It or Ticket campaign at a news conference Monday. The campaign will see the city and the health department, as well as the Toledo Police Department, University of Toledo Medical Center, and Maumee Fire Department, encourage Ohio drivers to take a few seconds to fasten their seatbelts. “Putting a seatbelt on takes about 10 to 15 seconds,” said Dr. Aela Vely, trauma medical director at UTMC, the former Medical College of Ohio Hospital. “Not putting on a seatbelt can cost someone their life. It can also, if you don’t die right there, cause traumatic injuries.”
