Emergency bridge closure causes indefinite traffic detour

On Oct. 30, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) announced the eastern bridge on FM 3002 over Lake Ray Roberts will be closed until further notice. TxDOT underwater bridge inspectors found damage to one of the columns on the structure last week. They closed the bridge and put a detour in place to move traffic around the bridge.

Short says Wichita Falls has work to finish

Wichita Falls mayor Tim Short said Thursday he will concentrate on things the city started in his first term. “We have things we need to finish,” he said. Short won reelection Tuesday to a new three-year term, defeating challenger Scott Poenitzsch by winning 61 percent of the vote. “We continue our economic development plans. We continue to strengthen our relationship with Sheppard Air Force Base, encouraging new missions here,” Short said of his plans. He also said since Democrats won the top races in Texas state government, “we’ll have to introduce ourselves to some of those folks and see how we can continue to work with them.” Gina Hinojosa, who has called for a continued moratorium on data centers, won the gubernatorial race. Short said he would love to meet with her or her staff to discuss the future of a Skybox data center planned for the Wichita Falls Business Park. “We would like them to know that Skybox is basically the model that should be used throughout the state of Texas,” Short said. “All the things that people want, Skybox does.” Skybox, based in Dallas, bought 225 acres in the business park for $14.5 million and has promised property

Christmas Magic market returns to Wichita Falls

Christmas has come early this year as the Junior League of Wichita Falls will host the 45th annual Christmas Magic market from Thursday, Nov. 5-Sunday, Nov. 8. Hundreds of vendors will be set up inside the Ray Clymer Exhibit Hall at the Multi-Purpose Events Center where shoppers can browse the seasonal home decor, clothing, crafts, treats and other holiday gifts. Thursday will feature a preview party only. Shoppers will receive a bag, drink ticket and raffle ticket. Saturday's market will feature a special Magic Mini Market, offering additional seasonal gifts. Other special activities will include Crafts and Cocktails and Craft with Claus —an event designed for kids to create crafts and meet Santa. Admission for one-day at the market is $8 in advance or $10 at the door. A three-day market pass is $15, and children 10 and under are free. Preview party tickets are $30 in advance or $35 at the door. Tickets can be purchased online through the Junior League of Wichita Falls. Presale pricing will end at noon on Thursday.
