Dumas man gives 79th blood donation: ‘If I can help someone I will.’
“It is something I can do that doesn’t hurt me and helps someone else, and that is what I am on this Earth for,” said Herbert Wethington of Dumas Wednesday in the Dumas Noon Lions Club building as he prepared to give a blood donation at Coffee Memorial Blood Center of Amarillo’s April community drive in Dumas. It would be the 79th time he has donated blood over the years.
Local law enforcement to honor fallen colleagues May 15
May 15 is National Peace Officers Memorial Day, and the week in which it falls is National Police Week. Congress passed a resolution and President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation in 1962 to create the two as a way to pay tribute to law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty. The need for such commemorations was made painfully evident Monday in Charlotte, North Carolina when four officers were shot and killed and four others wounded as they tried to serve a warrant on someone.
Dumas Police Department implementing tactical response team for community
DUMAS, Texas (KFDA) - The Dumas Police Department selected six of its own officers to undergo training in crisis negotiation and join a special tactical response team. “It’s like having one hand behind your back, you know, you need to have an equivalent capability not only for tactical operations but also for crisis intervention,” said Chief Rick Pippins.
Demonettes sweep Seminole, claim bi-district crown
The Dumas Demonette varsity softball team defeated the Seminole Maidens 2-0 (in a best-of-three series) in the opening round of post-season play to be crowned bi-district champion this past weekend. Dumas outscored the Maidens 37-10 in the series with a total of eight home runs hit. Game One.

Dumas softball player Vida Fierro and Gruver baseball player Stephen Cowan have been voted as the Happy State Bank Athletes of the week for last week. TxDOT to host virtual meeting for Rural Transportation Improvement Program
AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Texas Department of Transportation officials will host a virtual meeting on Wednesday to discuss area transportation projects. The virtual meeting will information regarding the 2025-2028 Rural Transportation Improvement Program or Rural TIP within the Amarillo District. Sanford-Fritch defeats Quanah behind massive first inning
AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - The Sanford-Fritch Lady Eagles defeated the Quanah Lady Indians by a score of 21-0 in Friday evening’s bi-district softball championship game. The Lady Eagles scored 20 runs in the first inning to lead them to victory. They were led by Hallie White’s four RBIs, two hits and two runs in the game. Eight out of the nine Sanford-Fritch starters recorded an RBI in the game.
