DOT reminds motorists to not move, go around road closed signs even if it looks like project is complete
MASON CITY — Motorists are being reminded not to drive around barricades in road construction areas even if it looks like the project is done. Pete Hjelmstad with the Iowa Department of Transportation says while the main paving portion of the US Highway 65 project in southern Mason City is done, that does not mean the road is ready to be opened. “The main line paving is done, and for some reason, that means people think when the construction workers have gone home they can move the barricades and drive through there, and then leave the barricades there and other people start driving through there. That’s illegal. You are on video. We do have video of people who have done it, so do not do that.”

And over the course of a year, those minutes start to look a whole lot bigger.
