STEVENS POINT – Hobby Lobby will host the grand opening of its new Stevens Point store May 6.

A company spokesperson confirmed Friday morning the latest opening timeline for the new location at 5657 U.S. 10 E.

Hobby Lobby is an arts and crafts retail store that offers a variety of art supplies, yarn, fabric, jewelry making supplies, home décor, floral items and more. The company opened its first location in Oklahoma City in 1970 and has since grown throughout 48 states, including 26 in Wisconsin.

That growth has been seen in central Wisconsin as well. Hobby Lobby opened in February at the redeveloped mall in Marshfield.

Plans for the Stevens Point store have been in the works for more than a year, as the company worked through construction plans with city and state officials. Last May, Hobby Lobby confirmed it would open a 50,000-square-foot store. At the time, the company was looking toward a January opening, but the store adjusted its plans earlier this year to open in early 2024.
