Sterling Heights woman who lied about her age to police arrested for drunk driving after 'swerving all over the road'

TROY (WWJ) — A Sterling Heights woman is in trouble with the law after allegedly driving drunk and lying to police about her age.

Around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 21 Troy police officers were called to the area of Big Beaver and Rochester Roads after getting reports of a possible drunk driver who was “swerving all over the road” in a gray Ford F-150.

When officers showed up they pulled the pickup truck over when they saw it swerving in its lane.

While the woman — later identified as a 45-year-old woman from Sterling Heights — was pulling over into a parking lot, police officials say she hit the curb and ran over a small grassy median.

When officers spoke with the driver, they noticed her speech was slurred and she smelled of alcohol.

The woman claimed she did not have her driver’s license with her when officers asked for her ID. She denied being the registered owner of the truck and instead “gave officers the name and date of birth of a female much younger, claiming to be that subject,” officials said.

After failing several sobriety tests, she refused to take a preliminary breath test and was arrested and taken to the Troy Police Lock-Up.

When police searched the truck, they found a red plastic cup with alcohol in it, as well as her driver’s license, which showed she was in fact 45 years old and the truck’s registered owner.

The woman refused to take a breath test at the lock-up, but her blood was drawn for a chemical test. Police officials said the case was turned over to the detective bureau and charges would be field once the test results were returned.
