    Detroit Yacht Club member missing after kayak found adrift on Lake St. Clair, prompting U.S. Coast Guard helicopter search

    CLAY TWP. (WWJ) — The search for a missing man is ongoing after what's believed to be his kayak was found adrift on Lake St. Clair Monday evening.

    Officials with the U.S. Coast Guard told WWJ Newsradio 950 they sent up a helicopter after the kayak was spotted in the Anchor Bay area, near Clay Township.

    No one was found in the water, and the helicopter was recalled to the air station due to another incident, officials told WWJ.

    Clay Township Police said the fire department retrieved the kayak Monday evening.

    On Tuesday, a missing persons report was shared on social media regarding James "Jim" Kuntz — a member of the Detroit Yacht Club who disappeared over the weekend. [See his photo HERE ].

    According to a post shared to boating groups on Facebook , Kuntz was last seen Saturday morning at the DYC. His truck was left in the parking lot, and his keys and wallet were found on his boat.

    The post reads: "He is an avid kayaker and his kayak is missing. We’ve contacted the police, Coast Guard and called every hospital. He is nowhere to be found. If you have any information, PLEASE contact me."

    Authorities have not released any further details.
