Penn State Football Positional Previews: Coverage Units
Penn State's defensive units were elite in 2023, offering up a little bit of everything at all three levels. While no defense is without its weaknesses, few managed to slow down opponents as well, and as often, as the Nittany Lions did. This could be said for Penn State's coverage units as well. Although not quite as good as advertised, the Nittany Lions still managed to showcase talent, speed and ball skills all year long. They'll hope to do the same in 2024 with plenty of new faces stepping up into larger roles. Last Year: Penn State went into 2023 with...

This story was produced by the State College regional bureau of Spotlight PA, an independent, nonpartisan newsroom dedicated to investigative and public-service journalism for Pennsylvania. Sign up for our north-central Pa. newsletter, Talk of the Town, at spotlightpa.org/newsletters/talkofthetown. A Pennsylvania commission oversees more than 150 water utilities statewide, most of which are privately owned, and the number of systems acquired by for-profit companies has risen in recent years. While there are benefits to water privatization, like more financial resources and staffing, there are also downsides. For example, municipal officials lose their power to regulate, and that can limit local authority when communities have issues...

Penn State Football: Carter Still Expected to See Time at Linebacker
Penn State linebacker Abdul Carter's well publicized change to defensive end this offseason doesn't mean Nittany Lion fans won't be seeing him at linebacker again while in a Blue and White uniform, according to head coach James Franklin. "He'll play both," Franklin said during his press conference at Big Ten Media Days in Indianapolis. "We have the flexibility to play him at both positions. He's one of the unique athletes that was playing linebacker at 250 pounds. You never know how that transition is going to go, playing in space at the linebacker position compared to moving up to the line...

Support Your Local Brewery
This story originally appeared in the July 2024 edition of Town&Gown magazine. I remember being at a music festival in western Minnesota back in the mid-aughts (showing my age here) while wearing one of my favorite shirts from Otto’s Pub and Brewery, our only local brewery at the time. While waiting in line to get a beverage (naturally), another beer lover noticed the back of my t-shirt, which read “Support your local brewery.” We became fast beer-line friends as we bonded over microbrews, and even suggested that we would like to try the local brews from each other’s neck of the woods someday...
