Essex wine bar/eatery to close after New Year's Eve unless buyer found

This article has been updated with new information. A wine bar that opened in Essex more than five years ago announced over the weekend that it will close following what the owner refers to as a “crescendo” on New Year’s Eve. Salt & Bubbles Wine Bar and Market opened in June 2021 at the Essex Experience complex. Founder Kayla Silver honed her wine experience at the Dedalus wine shop and Honey Road restaurant in Burlington. Along with serving what its website refers to as “ethically made wines,” Salt & Bubbles put together food such as sandwiches, marinated olives, charcuterie plates and other dishes intended to complement the wines. “It’s really meant to offer two different experiences, which I think this area was really in need of,” Silver told the Burlington Free Press soon after opening Salt & Bubbles. “This kind of dining experience just wasn’t happening here.” Vermont Pub & Brewery, Bluebird Barbecue also closing A Nov. 1 social media post signed “Kayla & the Salt & Bubbles Team” says the business “will cease on the bubbliest of days: New Year’s Eve.” The message thanked customers and staff before moving on to reasons behind the closure. “The truth is, yes,

Long-time Burlington BBQ joint closes its doors

Bluebird Barbecue, a Burlington staple for slow-smoked meats, shut down this Halloween. The restaurant was set to serve curbside takeout until closing time on Saturday as a final sendoff. "It's time for Bluebird to say goodbye," owner Sue Bette said in a press release. "We wish Bluebird could continue on, but the conditions just aren't lining up for Bluebird to be Bluebird.” The barbecue restaurant had been roasting brisket, chopping beef and shredding coleslaw at 317 Riverside Ave. since 2012. Customers could chow down menu items like the “Family Reunion,” piled high with hickory-smoked meat that’s been cooking for 15 hours. The cuisine put a local spin on American classics, with maple-doused sauce or butter and pulled-pork poutine. Bluebird’s pitmaster ramen, which combined the burnt ends of slow-smoked brisket with Japanese noodle soup, earned a visit from TV personality and chef Guy Fieri for the popular Food Network show “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives” in 2020. Bette and the rest of the Bluebird Barbecue staff had no further comment on the restaurant’s closure, a representative told the Burlington Free Press last week. "As we send Bluebird off, we want to recognize all the Bluebirds, past and present, whose talent, creativity, and
