SPRINGFIELD, Mo–The Springfield Cardinals will be looking for their 11th win of the season Thursday night in Amarillo.

Wednesday, Springfield’s Ian Bedell pitched the second half of a piggy back start with Alex Cromwell.

Cromwell pitched the first five innings and got the win.

Bedell pitched the last four innings, giving up zero runs, one hit with six strikeouts.

He earned his first career save.

That goes along with a victory he won a week ago.

Bedell played his college ball at Mizzou.

And St Louis drafted him in the fourth round in 2020.

But he suffered an elbow injury before the 2021 campaign and had Tommy John surgery.

“Going into that spring training in 2021, I felt really confident. And then the elbow did not agree with me. And it decided to go. But I’m really happy to be back. The arm feels great now. It took around 18 month for it to feel fully normal again. There were a few setbacks in that process getting back. But everything is good now. Went through a little bit of an on ramp last year with an inning cap. Got through the season healthy,” said Bedell.
