City seeks public input on tax abatement for proposed apartment complex
A Minnesota developer who is hoping to bring a new apartment complex to the Lonsdale community is asking the city and county for a 75% tax abatement over the next 10 years, totaling a little under $750,000. While some members of the Lonsdale City Council expressed reluctance about tax abatements in general, they all were in support for the relatively small amount, given the size of the proposed project and the benefits it would bring to the community. Lonsdale is holding a public hearing on the abatement at its council meeting 7 p.m. Dec. 22 at City Hall. The proposed apartments would bring 58 “luxury” units to the lot between Mackenthun’s Fine Foods and the Lonsdale Public Library, along with a number of amenities and even a new trail connection for the city. The apartments available include studios, one-bedroom apartments, two-bedroom apartments and three-bedroom apartments, with monthly rents ranging from $1,025 to $1,500. Before the land is purchased by developer Brian Bruggeman, it was all part of the same parcel. However, city documents indicate the parcel would be split, and some of the land would be resold for the construction of nine single-family homes. If the tax abatement is approved

Faribault approves office, storage for old Lampert's property
The Lampert’s Yards building will soon see new life, as a company has recently purchased the property and will use it as a contractor’s office and storage yard. At Tuesday’s Faribault City Council meeting, the council approved a final plat, developer’s agreement and an encroachment agreement for “Jasy First Addition,” a development for the reuse of the Lampert’s Building and yard area at 801 Fourth St., next to the train tracks along Highway 60. City Planning Manager Harry Davis presented the development resolutions. He told the council that the project had already been presented to them back in late August for approval of the preliminary plot, which combined two lots of land to allow use of the current building. “You’ll notice that it’s actually two parcels, which is part of the reason as to why we’re in front of you tonight with the final plot,” he said. “Previously seen was the preliminary plot for this project.” Davis noted that typically preliminary and final plots are requested at the same time for development, but not always. It’s up to the applicant. “We’ve seen a lot of requests recently where it’s combined preliminary and final plot,” he said. “This is just one
