In September 2025, Community Development Asset Group (CDAG) out of the the Twin Cities proposed a 43-unit market-rate apartment complex at the end of the dead end 7th Street Northeast off of Elm Avenue. The for-profit company has submitted another proposal for the City of Montgomery to consider an apartment complex of 56 units now.

Chankaska Creek Winery seeks buyer or investor amid financial woes
Chankaska Creek Winery in Kasota announced on Feb. 6 that the businness was seeking a buyer after entering into an assignement for the benefit of creditors. The move appoints Lighthouse Management Group, Inc. as assignee over the assets of the company allowing for a judicial sale process fo the business’ assets. Owners Jane and Kent Schwickert said their hope is that the ranch, winery and distillery they established in 2008 will continue to operate with a new owner or partner that can maximize the business’ value. “Our goal at Chankaska has always been to create great products, be a regional destination, make our community proud and provide a venue that our patrons and friends can enjoy,” the Schwickerts said in a press release. “We hope this difficult decision will assure that what we started can continue.” Chankasaka had struggled to financially recover from the loss of business during the COVID-19 pandemic. Tthose struggles continued as the winery faced sustaine dhigh interest rates that have caused financial distress and made survival of the business in tis current form impossible, according tot he press release.
