Five Ocean County Health Department employees were honored this week for stepping in during a medical emergency at the county’s WIC Main Office in Lakewood. On Wednesday, the Ocean County Board of Health gave Certificates of Appreciation to Kimberly Belanger, Valerie Carerro, Colleen McDonald, Marilynn McNeil and Jaqueline Suarez-Ruiz, the Health Department said.

Striped bass coralled off Ocean County beaches, big bluefish reeled in

The fall run of striped bass is full steam at this point and at times the fleet gathering right off the coast has resembled a large regatta. About the only thing that slows it down is when the ocean conditions take a turn like they did Wednesday when the wind picked up out of the south and the bass became stubborn. Most of the fleet then took a pass on Thursday with south winds gusting up to 25 miles per hour and small craft adivsory on the water issued by NOAA. NOAA is calling for the wind to back off on Friday and then blow out of the west for the weekend, which is the preferred direction by fishermen, at least for keeping the seas down. Tuesday was perhaps the best day of the week. There was bright sun and fish on bunker for acres at several locales. Greg Hueth on the Big Mohawk said the minute the boat broke the Shark River Inlet they were greeted with scene of striped bass chasing bunkers out of the water. 2.27 Miles Of Lakewood County Roads Up For Repaving

Ocean County is taking bids to mill and repave 2.27 miles of county roads in Lakewood. Besides the repaving, the contract covers replacing deteriorated drainage pipe, rebuilding ADA curb ramps, changing three existing traffic signals, and new stripes and markings. The county puts the construction cost at $1 million to $5 million.

Board of Elections ends investigation into voter eligibility

BAY HEAD — The Ocean County Board of Elections has officially concluded its investigation into the voting domicile of 39 individuals in Bay Head. Other than those who have asked to be removed from the voter rolls, no other individuals were removed or challenged.   Election board Chairman George R.
