Jeremy Gaskill on Geisinger Health Plan’s Medicare Advantage growth

As other insurers pull back, Geisinger Health Plan isn’t exiting any Medicare Advantage plans for 2027 and expects to grow, President Jeremy Gaskill says. While insurers have been canceling Medicare Advantage plans and exiting markets amid higher-than-expected utilization, Geisinger Health Plan (GHP) is holding steady and expects to grow in 2027, according to Jeremy Gaskill, the plan’s president. GHP has roughly 100,000 Medicare Advantage members in HMO and PPO plans, out of just over 500,000 members across all lines of business. Woolrich fire company’s new helistop sees its first patient transfer

Woolrich, Pa. — A helicopter landing site years in the making at the Woolrich Volunteer Fire Company was used for the first time Sunday night to fly a trauma patient to a hospital. The Chief James “Jimmy” Jones Helistop, registered with the Federal Aviation Administration as 35PN, went into service several weeks ago at the home of Woolrich Station 12. On Nov. 1, a STAT MedEvac helicopter landed there to pick up a patient from a land rescue in the area. “With years of planning, hours of hard work, and the drive of volunteers paid off tonight for Woolrich Station 12,” the fire company wrote in a Facebook post. The fire company said the helistop gives medical helicopters a set place to land and pick up trauma patients. That cuts down on transport time and gives patients “the best possible outcome for their injuries,” according to the post. The fire company did not release details about the rescue or the patient’s condition. “Job well done by all involved in the land rescue this evening and our thoughts and prayers are with the victim and their family at this time,” the company wrote. The helistop is named for former Woolrich Volunteer

Amid Measles Surge, Amish Country Opens Up to Vaccines

(This content was created with the help of AI.) Pennsylvania's largest Amish community has become ground zero for the country's worst measles surge in decades—and it's quietly shifting some minds on vaccines. The AP reports Lancaster County accounts for more than a third of the state's 1,350-plus measles cases this year, with at least three related deaths there. Though the Amish and conservative Mennonites often live apart from mainstream civic life, they shop, work, and attend school alongside their "English" neighbors, making it impossible to contain the highly contagious virus within their ...

As a Historic Measles Outbreak Hits Pennsylvania Amish Country, More Show Openness to Vaccines

EPHRATA, Pa. (AP) — Amish and Mennonite shoppers in conservative dress mingled with shoppers from the wider public on a recent Friday at a vast outdoor market here, where vendors sold colorful pumpkins and mums, fry pies and squash, sports jerseys and Barbie accessories. Such interactions are common in Lancaster County, home to the largest Amish population in the U.S. — and the epicenter of the nation’s worst measles outbreak in 35 years. While they avoid many types of civic engagement for religious reasons, the Amish — like many other groups vulnerable to measles across the nation — are not truly separate. “We are all interconnected,” said Dr. Diego Hijano of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Robust vaccination rates once protected Americans much better. But rates among the general public are now falling , and rates have long been low among the Amish, creating the perfect conditions for the contagious virus — officially considered “eliminated” from the U.S. since 2000 — to spread here and beyond. Pennsylvania has the most U.S. cases, with over 1,350 this year, more than a third in Lancaster County alone , according to state figures. That’s a big undercount, community leaders say, since many people
