Boston-area high school football team misses playoffs after clerical error
A clerical error for a Massachusetts high school football program has led to the team missing out on the postseason despite ending the year with a winning record. Boston English/New Mission (MA) scheduled a game with O'Bryant (MA) to close out the 2026 regular season. However, that game was not marked as an official game on Boston English's schedule , according to a report from the Boston Globe. The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association now uses a system, Arbiter Live, to track team schedules and all games must be added to the platform before the Sept. 18 deadline. A week prior, another member school alerted the MIAA about a discrepancy on Boston English's schedule. The game against O'Bryant was not added in by the Sept. 18 deadline, and while the Bulldogs won 12-6, it was counted as a scrimmage instead of an official game. The players and coaches went from winning the program's first Boston City League title since 2021 to finding out the next day that they would missing the postseason. As the contest was counted as a scrimmage, the Bulldogs fell to 4-2 on the year and fell one game short of the state's seven-game minimum for qualifying for

Super 10 South Shore high school football rankings: Playoff time
The MIAA high school football playoffs are here. To get there, the last week of the regular season featured plenty of drama. Plymouth South survived a pair of North Quincy-recovered onside kicks to secure a playoff spot. Canton defeated Oliver Ames in a de facto playoff game for both sides in a thriller. Weymouth narrowly edged out Newton North for the final spot in the Division 1 playoffs. Scituate finished the season as the area's lone undefeated team (only 13 teams finished unblemished in the state). The Sailors were one of three local teams to earn the No. 1 seed in their bracket (Div. 4), along with Norwell (Div. 6) and Cohasset (Div. 7). Boston Public Schools leadership is set to propose the closure of three schools in 2028 as the district faces declining enrollment. District leaders will put forward a plan to shut down East Boston Early Education Center, Greater Egleston High School in Roxbury and Charlestown High School at Wednesday’s school committee meeting. The district intends to eventually relocate another secondary school in the Charlestown building. The committee is expected to vote on the plan in early December.

South Shore high school football playoff scores and top performers
It feels like the season just started, but the MIAA high school football playoffs are here. There was disappointing news earlier this week that Gillette Stadium will not host the Super Bowls due to scheduling issues, but that will all be forgotten once the games kick off on Thursday. Led by three defending state champions - Scituate (Division 4), Cohasset (Div. 7) and Randolph (Div. 8) - the South Shore will be represented by 22 teams in the playoffs. There are two games that pit area teams against each other, both in Div. 3. No. 3 Marshfield will host No. 14 Silver Lake in a rematch of a game from a month ago. No. 8 Milton will host No. 9 Hingham in what could be one of the most competitive games of the weekend. Franklin High football's MIAA playoff hopes dashed by Andover
The Franklin football team found itself in a spot it's in every year on Thursday night, November 5. The Panthers were back in the MIAA Division 1 state playoffs, a trip they have made each full season since 2019. Yet, for the fourth straight fall, the Panthers couldn't get over the first-round hump, as the eighth-seeded Panthers couldn't hold off hard-charging No. 9-seed Andover in a 56-21 victory for the visitors. It marked the third time since 2019 that Andover had defeated Franklin in the postseason. More: MetroWest high school football schedule/live scores (Nov. 5-7) Among the bright spots for the host Panthers (6-3) was sophomore quarterback Ethan Edmunds, who was 34-for-51 passing for 270 yards and three touchdowns in addition to 68 yards rushing. Additionally, Ben Scullin had eight catches for 65 yards and two TDs for Franklin, while Iyad Fraifer had nine catches for 102 yards and a TD. Christian Holmes added 13 catches for 86 yards for the Panthers. For Andover, senior Marcus DeJesus ran for four touchdowns and caught another in the convincing victory. Andover will visit top-seeded St. John's Prep (9-0) in a quarterfinal clash (date, time TBA). This article originally appeared on The Milford
