Hope School Board approves playground, personnel and student hearings
“I would like to say thank you to the community,” said Clinton Primary Principal Ashlea Stewart at the special called Hope Public School Board meeting Thursday night. Superintendent Dr.Jonathan Crossley turned attention to Stewart saying she was “really excited” about the project and said she could answer questions. Stewart explained the old playground was installed when the school was built over 30 years ago. “Currently three-fourths of that structure is condemned and boarded up.” She said fundraising had continued for 14 years, with typical fundraisers only bringing in between 1,200 and 3,000 dollars each time. With community donations and help from the school’s magnet program, they were able to move forward, even securing a 40% discount on new equipment according to Stewart.

Powell powers Bearcats over Rebels
RUSTON, La. — First came the blowout win. Ruston High manhandled West Monroe 41-14 Friday in the final game of the regular season, and the Bearcats (8-2, 4-1 District 2-5A) can do nothing now but watch the power points and the playoff bracket. They sit on the cusp of the No. 4 seed, which would carry with it a first-round bye. West Monroe, meanwhile, finished 6-4 (3-2 District 2-5A) and may not finish high enough to host a first round home matchup.

Blanket ban: Masur’s excessive punishment
Residents should be able to study, sleep and relax in the place they call home without strangers wandering the hallways or noise breaking the quiet at all hours. For Masur residents, that has not always been the case. Fellow occupants and their visitors often interrupt studying and rob residents of sleep. ULM has acted, but the ban punishes the wrong people.

Student workers deserve parking spots
Many academic and administrative departments of ULM provide employment opportunities for students through both Federal Work-Study and Campus Work programs. Many offices around campus rely on student employees to serve as the face of their department. Behind the scenes, student workers carry out various demanding tasks that require focus, adaptability and diligence. Between assisting visitors, answering questions and completing other office responsibilities, these workers must learn to adjust quickly when necessary and remain reliable under pressure. These valuable roles do not come without additional challenges, such as limited parking options.

Parker Robinson sets Neville football's passing record as Tigers clinch district
MONROE — Parker Robinson has Neville High School’s all-time leading passing record with 6,789 yards. The senior quarterback and Louisiana-Monroe commit took the record, which belonged for over two decades to Robert Lane, during a scoring drive in which he totaled his fourth touchdown of the night, a 12-yard strike to sophomore Deuntra Schneatte, in the Tigers’ District 2-4A matchup against Tioga. Robinson and Schneatte also hooked up for an 80-yard score on Neville’s first offensive play of the game. After making back-to-back semifinals in Division I nonselect, Neville hasn’t missed a beat in its move to D-II nonselect this fall. It clinched the District 2-4A title following its 45-14 victory against Tioga on Friday, Oct. 30, at Mickey McCarty Field. “We’ve had a lot of ups and downs with this team, but I think the thing that separates us is just our chemistry and how close we are,” Robinson said. “We really are family. We fight like brothers; we compete like brothers every day. A good or bad play, we keep level-headed; we complement each other.
