Dr. Eve Covas Retires
A person who has done much to bring good health to Hope was honored with a retirement party Tuesday (May 30th) at Cabun Rural Health Services on South Main in Hope. Dr. Eve Covas has practiced in Hope for 28 years and has practiced overall for nearly 40 years. She originally practiced at the Cabun clinic at the Hope Migrant Center and relocated when Cabun moved to South Main.
Hope High Retirees Honored
HOPE, AR – Three Hope High School retirees were honored recently during an event at Hope High School. Ms. Barbara Holmes, Ms. Kathy Owens, and Mr. Donald Patton celebrated the announcement of their retirement on Friday, May 26, 2023. Each received a rocking chair donated by the Hempstead County Abstract and Title Company.
Hope Pre-K Mans Table At Hope Farmers Market
At the Hope Farmer’s Market held at the Hub on Tuesday morning May 23rd, the pre K program at Clinton Primary was on hand to pass out literature. Pre-K will be offered at Clinton Primary at 601 Lakeshore Drive in Hope. While there is income eligibility, the requirements have been loosened so most people are eligible. The children must be 3 by August 1st for the three-year old class and 4 by August 1st for the 4 year old class. The cost is free.

Cooperative Extension Service to host artificial insemination training course for cattle producers
HOPE, Ark. — For producers interested in improving their cattle through artificial insemination, the Cooperative Extension Service is offering a two-day training course on June 8-9. Charles Looney, extension professor of cattle improvement for the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture, will lead the workshop. The training runs from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on June 8 and 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. on June 9 at the Southwest Research and Extension Center, located at 362 Hwy 174 North in Hope, Arkansas. Registration is $450, which includes lunch on both days. Participants must register by June 5 at uada.formstack.com/beef_cattle_ai.
Patmos, Spring Hill VFD, Sheriff’s Department Respond to Fire Behind Former Chicken House
The Patmos and Spring Hill Volunteer Fire Departments and the Hempstead County Sheriff’s Department responded to a fire behind an old chicken house being used as a barn around 1:10pm Tuesday. The property belongs to Robbie Bobo who was working in the area when the fire broke out. Firemen kept the fire away from the barn where hay was stored and got the fire put out. There were no injuries.

Scouts honor veterans
Hope’s Troop 5 placed American flags on the graves of US Veterans at Rose Hill and Memory Gardens Cemeteries on Memorial Day morning. Following some comments and a prayer by Troop 5 Committee Chairman Keenan Williams the group divided into 5 teams and placed several hundred American flags. One injured in Rosston shooting
ROSSTON – An altercation Sunday night led to the shooting of a 22-year-old Rosston man. According to a report from Chief Deputy Larry Miller with the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. in the 1900 block of State Hwy. 200. The report states three individuals were involved and a shot was fired from a handgun. The victim was taken to Wadley Hospital in Hope by private vehicle and later transferred to Wadley Regional in Texarkana, though the injuries weren’t life threatening.

Delight Man arrested for drug possession
On May 21st, Pike County Deputy Christ Gates stopped a pickup on Highway 84 for no tags. It was reported that the driver was identified as 51-year-old Brenda Moore of Delight. As reported, Moore allegedly confessed that she smelled like marijuana and that she had smoked before she left her recent location. Gates then asked Moore was there anything illegal in the vehicle and Moore reportedly pointed to the center console area. It was reported that Gates had Moore step out of the vehicle and empty her pockets. Gates reportedly found suspected methamphetamine in a purse style wallet on the center console. Gates arrested Moore and advised her of her rights. Gates transported Moore to the Pike County Jail and Moore was charged with possession of a schedule two controlled substance, failure to register vehicle, and driving on a suspended license.
Interstate 30 wreck takes life of Hope man
One Hope resident was killed and a second was injured early Wednesday in a wreck on Interstate 30 south of Malvern. According to a preliminary Arkansas State Police report, a 2021 Prius driven by Corey Lewis, 21, of Hope came to a stop on the outside traffic lane of Interstate 30 eastbound near the 96-mile marker. His car was rear-ended by a 2016 Freightliner, which was also eastbound. The collision caused both vehicles to leave the road.
City of Hope Sets Memorial Day Trash Schedule
The City of Hope will be closed May 29, 2023 for Memorial Day. Monday trash will be picked up on Tuesday. Tuesday trash will be picked up on Wednesday. Thursday and Friday trash will run normal. No Rubbish pick up this week. Commercial route will run normal.
