AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) – Geissler’s Supermarket announced it is planning to expand by taking over Fitzgerald’s Foods in Simsbury, Connecticut.

Local consumers still dealing with high prices at grocery stores

Geissler’s Supermarket, started in 1923 delivering groceries in the Broad Brook village of East Windsor, Connecticut. Today, the 4th generation family-owned and operated business has 7 brick and mortar locations throughout Connecticut and one in Agawam, Massachusetts. In 2023, they celebrated their 100th birthday with a multi-million dollar renovation to the longtime location at Agawam’s Southgate Shopping Plaza.

Lussier Ventures, Inc dba Fitzgerald’s Foods in Simsbury is owned and operated by Bryan and Sandy DeVoe. In mid-June, Geissler’s Supermarket is expected to acquire the substantial majority of assets of Fitzgerald’s Foods. In a news release sent to 22News, Geissler’s Supermarket plans to retain the entire staff including Bryan and Sandy DeVoe.

“We are excited to welcome Bryan and Sandy DeVoe to the Geissler’s family. Fitzgerald’s Foods has a long history in Simsbury of providing fresh foods, friendly service and serving the entire community.” said Bob Rybick President and CEO of Geissler’s. “It was clear, early on, that we share the same commitment to fresh quality foods and locally produced products as the DeVoe’s. We plan to continue those great traditions, and learn from their expertise in fresh to enhance both Fitzgerald’s and all the Geissler’s stores in the future.” he added.
