Cosby blasts Midway 48-8 for first-ever football playoff victory
COSBY — For the first 35 seasons of Cosby High School football, even when the Eagles found regular-season success, a playoff victory just wouldn’t come. Heading into this season, fourth-year head coach Levi Cooper and his team made it a stated goal to finally break through in the postseason. On Friday night, they did just that. Cosby, the No. 1 seed out of Region 1, blasted Midway, the No. 4 seed from Region 2, to the tune of a 48-8 final score in the first round of the TSSAA 1A state playoffs at Virgil Ball Stadium. In the process, the Eagles secured the program’s first-ever 10-win season, too. Cosby has familiar playoff opponent in Midway to open postseason
COSBY — On Nov. 8, 2025, the Cosby High School football team traveled to Kingston and was defeated by Midway 27-13 in the first round of the TSSAA 1A state playoffs. On Friday, 363 days later, the Eagles will host the Green Wave in Cosby with a chance for revenge — and the program’s first-ever postseason win — on the line. Region 1 champion Cosby (9-1) will see a Midway team that went 6-4 under first-year coach Anthony Leckie, who promoted from offensive coordinator, and finished fourth in Region 2 after starting 0-3 in league play before winning four straight. The Green Wave enter the postseason on a five-game winning streak overall and defeated Wartburg Central 28-17 in a go-or-go-home contest last Thursday. “They look a little bit different than they did last year when we played them in the playoffs,” Cosby head coach Levi Cooper said of Miday. “They’ve got a new head coach. So, schematically, they look different, a little bit, on both sides. Personnel-wise, they seem to be extremely athletic on both sides. They’ve got a really good quarterback, a really good running back, and some athletic wide receivers that they like to throw the ball around
