Public Meeting on Forney Lake Management set for June 4th
(Hamburg) The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is hosting a public meeting to discuss past and future management of the 1,317-acre Forney Lake Wildlife Area in Fremont County. Staff with the Iowa DNR will give a presentation on Forney Lake, and then listen to comments and concerns from the public.

Red Oak school board awards Inman boiler replacement contract
(Red Oak) -- Red Oak school officials have awarded a contract for a major infrastructure upgrade at Inman Elementary School. Meeting in regular session Wednesday, the Red Oak School Board, by a 3-0 vote, approved awarding the Inman boiler replacement project to Grunwald Mechanical out of Omaha for just over $289,000. The board also received two other proposals, including a roughly $351,000 bid from Rasmussen Mechanical out of Council Bluffs and a $511,000 proposal from Ray Martin Company in Omaha. Red Oak School Superintendent Ron Lorenz says all three bids checked out with the engineers, thus recommending the low bid. He adds that the boiler system replacement project will be a significant upgrade over the current boilers installed in the building in the early 2000s that are showing their age.

Clarinda baseball has good talent returning along side new faces this year
(Clarinda) -- The Clarinda Cardinals have a lot of success the last couple of years on the baseball field, and Head Coach Rod Eberly looks to continue the winning ways. The Cardinals return a key hitter in Cole Baumgart, who was restricted to just a DH role last year, because of a shoulder injury.
Sidney council tabs McCarthy Trenching for Filmore Street reconstruction
(Sidney) -- Sidney officials have selected a contractor for a major street reconstruction effort. Meeting in regular session Monday night, the Sidney City Council opened two bids on the Filmore Street Reconstruction Project and, by a 4-0 vote, accepted the McCarthy Trenching, LLC proposal for roughly $3.7 million. Plans call for reconstructing Filmore from the downtown square out to 292nd Street near city limits, installing new paving and sidewalk on the south side of the road, and replacing the underlying infrastructure. Steve Windish is with Ulteig, the company tabbed by the city oversee the development and bidding of the project. While over the engineer's estimate, Windish says both bids checked out an initial review from their company.
Clarinda ceremony marks National Police Officer Memorial Week
(Clarinda) -- The Clarinda community paused Wednesday afternoon to honor law enforcement personnel killed in the line of duty. Taps rang out near the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the Clarinda Cemetery Wednesday as members of the Clarinda Police Department and Page County Sheriff’s Office gathered to participate in a ceremony recognizing National Police Officers Memorial Week. Clarinda Police Chaplain Dr. Robert Keefer delivered an address during the ceremony. Keefer says law enforcement is akin to the rod and staff of a shepherd, keeping their communities safe.

Department: First off, I would be terribly remiss if I didn’t wish all mothers out there a happy Mother’s Day. A very special Mother’s Day to my wife Mary. In addition to being a great wife and teacher, Mary is a terrific mother to my two daughters. We are approaching a major milestone with our 30th wedding anniversary in June. How she’s put up with me that long, I have no idea, except for the fact that she married me for my money (BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!).
Red Oak Police Arrest Three People on Drug Charges
(Red Oak) Three people face drug charges following a search warrant in Red Oak. Red Oak Police conducted the search warrant at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday in the 400 block of North 4th Street. This led to the arrests of 60-year-old Robert Wade Abraham of Red Oak, 47-year-old Chrystal Rush Stewart, and 54-year-old Kenneth Gerald Owens.
