Fremont County drug bust nets 2 arrests
(Sidney) -- Two suspects face charges following a recent traffic stop in Fremont County. The Fremont County Sheriff's Office says 51-year-old Matthew Jeffrey Barnes and 51-year-old Serena Ann Scott, both of Omaha, were arrested Thursday in the 2300 block of Highway 2 following a traffic stop on a non-plated vehicle. During the stop, Fremont County K-9 Storm was deployed. Authorities say a search of the vehicle uncovered approximately 10 grams of suspected methamphetamine. Barnes was also wanted on a felony warrant out of Douglas County.
Malvern Woman Sentenced to 6 Months in Federal Prison for Bank Embezzlement Charge
(Council Bluffs) A Malvern woman was sentenced on April 25th to six months in federal prison for Embezzlement by a Bank Employee. According to public court documents and evidence presented at sentencing, Mackenzie Ann Meggison, 37, was employed as a mortgage loan officer at Malvern Bank and was also the treasurer for the Malvern Area Betterment Association (MABA) who maintained their accounts at Malvern Bank. Using her position at the bank, from July – October, 2020, Meggison conducted 57 unauthorized transactions on four separate MABA accounts totaling at least $66,175.42.

Page County board hears library summer programming plans
(Clarinda-Shenandoah) -- It looks to be another jam-packed summer at the Page County libraries for people of all ages. That's the message from Shenandoah Public Library Director Carrie Falk, who announced the summer reading program "Read, Read, and Repeat" and the sharing plans during that time between the county libraries during the Page County Board of Supervisors meeting Thursday. Falk says all the county libraries, including Clarinda, Essex, Coin, and Shenandoah, plan to have various events with that theme in mind.
Council Bluffs Woman Arrested in Montgomery County for Possession of Meth and Other Charges
(Montgomery Co) The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office arrested 28-year-old Rebecca Sue Warren, of Council Bluffs, on Pottawattamie County warrants, Possession of Methamphetamine 1st Offense, and Person Ineligible to Carry Weapons. Warren was transported to the Montgomery County Jail where she was held on $2,000 bond.
Hansen beginning next chapter, stepping back from KMA general, sales manager role
(Shenandoah) -- Another long-time figure in KMA's management team is moving on to her next chapter. Tuesday marked the final day at KMA for Sandy Hansen after over 30 years with the station's sales department, including the last 24 as sales manager. Hansen had also spent recent years overseeing KMA's general business operations. Speaking on last week's "Talk of the Town" segment, Hansen says while it felt like a good time to make the move, it is still bittersweet.
'Night of a Thousand Stars' shines in Shenandoah
(Shenandoah) -- Even on a cloudy night, the stars came out in Shenandoah Saturday night. Performers from all over KMAland gathered for "The Night of a Thousand Stars," a fundraiser for the Essex East Gym project. A overflow crowd packed the Elm Street Grill to enjoy a full night of entertainment--complete with a three-course meal. Mace Hensen and Fremont-Mills freshman Asa Reyes emceed the event. Hensen and a committee of Belinda and Blair DeBolt and Ciara Schierkolk recruited the cavalcade of talent. Hensen tells KMA News the show went on amidst threatening watcher conditions.

East Mills students, community invited to 'Walk, Bike, and Roll to School' event
(Malvern) -- City, school, and law enforcement officials are collaborating to establish a safe route to school for East Mills students. The East Mills School District, city of Malvern, and the Mills County Sheriff's Office are teaming up for a "Safe Walk, Bike, and Roll to School" event Wednesday morning. The event is also to help celebrate International Walk to School Day. Deputy Justin Farnan is the school resource officer for East Mills and has been one of the individuals helping organize the event. Farnan tells KMA News that interested students will meet at the Malvern City Park near the basketball courts at 7th and Prospect Streets.
KMAland skips severe weather sequel
(Red Oak) -- Despite ominous conditions, most of KMAland avoided a repeat of last Friday's severe weather outbreak. Most of southwest Iowa, southeast Nebraska and northwest Missouri were under tornado or severe thunderstorm warnings Tuesday afternoon and evening, as strong storm cells popped up all over the region. Montgomery County Emergency Management Coordinator Brian Hamman was among the storm spotters called into action.
