Three offseason moves the Seahawks must make

After settling into some perpetual mediocre in recent years the Seattle Seahawks made some big changes this offseason.

Pete Carroll is out as head coach.

Mike Macdonald is in.

There is a very good foundation of talent in place and reason to believe the Seahawks can compete for a playoff spot in the NFC, but they need a little more depth in some big areas to really help push them over the top. Let's talk about three potential moves that could help them get there.

1. More interior offensive line depth

The interior of the Seahawks offensive line has been a big problem in recent years and they did take some steps toward addressing it this offseason, especially with third-round pick Christian Haynes who seems to have the inside track at starting at right guard.

But there is nothing wrong with having more quality depth and more competition. They simply need more bodies and talent at the positions.

Starters get hurt. Rookies do not perform as expected. Building from the lines out is never a bad strategy and the Seahawks have ignored it for far too long.

2. Add another inside linebacker

Another big position of need this offseason was middle linebacker as the Seahawks have completely overhauled their position room with the signings of Tyrel Dodson and Jerome Baker.

But neither player is much of an impact starter and both are on one-year deals.

It is also not enough depth after letting Bobby Wagner, Jordyn Brooks and Devin Bush leave.

Shaquille Leonard and Kwon Alexander are two potential UFA's still remaining unsigned who could be intriguing signings. Leonard would have the highest upside but he would need to do a lot to prove he can still be a high-level player. It would need to be a cheap contract, but it could be worth it.

3. Sign another edge-rusher

This is not a huge pressing need because the Seahawks were a top-10 team in sacks in 2023 and have a really good duo in Boye Mafe and Uchenna Nwosu. They also addressed the defensive line in the draft with Byron Murphy II and have Leonard Williams returning.

But you can never have enough good pass-rushing depth in the NFL, especially in a division where you have to compete with the offenses of the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams.

Even the Arizona Cardinals could have a potentially formidable passing game that needs to be dealt with.

Emmanuel Ogbah, Calais Campbell and Yannick Ngakoue are all potential options that remain unsigned.
