Man armed with sword arrested for allegedly stealing alcoholic beverage from Santa Rosa restaurant

( KRON ) — A 29-year-old man was arrested early Monday morning for allegedly stealing an alcoholic beverage from a restaurant while armed with a sword, the Santa Rosa Police Department said. Santa Rosa PD officers responded at around 1:50 p.m. Sunday to a restaurant on the 500 block of Fourth Street to investigate a report of a possible stabbing.

At the scene, an employee told officers that a man exiting the restroom threatened an employee with a sword. The employee, police said, was able to safely flee. But was he was hiding, police said the man with the sword stole an alcoholic beverage from a cooler before fleeing the scene.

The restaurant provided officers with security camera footage which was distributed to on-duty patrol officers.

At around 12:15 a.m. Monday, two Santa Rosa PD officers conducting a traffic stop in the 100 block of College Avenue noticed a man who was yelling and “causing a disturbance.” Officers noted that the man was wearing the same clothes as the sword robbery suspect.

The officers gave the traffic stop driver a verbal warning and pivoted to contacting the man causing a disturbance. The man, Shane Hulbert, a transient from Santa Rosa, was detained. While investigating, officers found the sword used in the robbery in Hulbert’s possession.

He was arrested and booked into Sonoma County Jail on one count of felony robbery.
