Santa Rosa Police Arrest Drug Dealer with Substance Possibly More Dangerous Than Fenatnyl
A potentially more dangerous drug than Fentanyl was recovered by Santa Rosa police. Detectives began a drug trafficking investigation in December, during which they identified 46-year-old Alvaro Sanchez-Valencia as someone selling meth and fentanyl in the area. Police executed search warrants on his residence and vehicle, and detained Sanchez-Valencia as well as his roommate, 42-year-old Sonia Cardenas-Sandoval. Officers searched the residence on Cleveland Avenue and found 1.5 ounces of suspected Isotonitazene or ISO as well as 8 ounces of meth, packaging materials, a digital scale, and about $1900. ISO is a synthetic opioid that is believed to be more potent than fentanyl and it is believed Naloxone (Narcan) does not have an effect on it or may require multiple doses of Narcan to have an effect. Sanchez-Valencia and Cardenas-Sandoval were arrested and charged with possession of narcotics and a controlled susbtance for sale.

Update on Gunshot at Motel 6 in Santa Rosa
Police confirm a man fired a gun during an argument in the parking lot of the Motel 6 in north Santa Rosa. But, the alleged gunman in Saturday’s incident is still on the loose. Police say the man opened fire as a witness was on the phone with emergency dispatchers. The witness reported hearing a woman say “what are you going to do, shoot me?,” followed by the sound of a gunshot. A bullet went through the windshield of a nearby parked car, but no one was hit.

Single-Vehicle Crash on Highway 29/128 Causes Two Fatalities. Two students attending the Culinary Institute of America at Greystone were killed on May 20 in a single-vehicle crash near St. Helena. The accident happened around 2:00 a.m. along Highway 29/128, close to Mee Lane. A report had been received by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) of a vehicle that was speeding in the area.
Bennett Valley House Fire Displaces Two People
Investigators are still working to determine the cause of a house fire that displaced two Bennett Valley residents. The flames started in the home’s fireplace on Wednesday night, then spread into the attic. Crews had the fire under control in about 15 minutes, but not before it caused an estimated 75-thousand dollars in damage. No one was hurt.
Man Arrested in Connection to Alleged Unprovoked Baseball Bat Attack
A man has been arrested in connection to an alleged baseball bat attack last week in Sonoma County. According to a press release issued by the Petaluma Police Department, authorities responded to a report of an assault involving a baseball bat at Steamer Landing shortly before noon on May 17. The victim, a male individual, sustained minor injuries after being repeatedly struck by another male suspect.
Santa Rosa Police Looking Into Suspicious Death in Roadway
Santa Rosa police are trying to determine how a 40-year-old man found lying in the roadway died. Last Thursday night, first responders arrived near the intersection of Royal Oak Place and West Steele Lane where there was a man down in the roadway. He had major injuries and paramedics tried to save him but he died at the scene. He’s identified as Jesus Silveira of Santa Rosa. Police were called and investigators are still trying to determine if Silveira was assaulted or struck by a vehicle. Anyone with information or footage should contact Santa Rosa police.
Fire in 14-storied building
The Santa Rosa Fire Department received a water flow alarm in a fourteen-story apartment building on Tupper St. The first fire resource arrived in under five minutes. Fire personnel quickly ascended the stairs and discovered water flowing out of apartment 303. Fire personnel found the sprinkler system had activated and extinguished a small fire in the kitchen above the stove.

Plane Crash in Pacific Has Ties to Google Co-Founder
There are new details about the Hawaii-bound plane that crashed into the ocean after taking off from Santa Rosa, killing both people on board. The plane was owned by Bayshore Global Management, a Palo Alto-based asset management company founded by Google co-founder Sergey Brin. The twin engine plane crashed off the coast of Half Moon Bay after the pilots reported a fuel issue on Saturday afternoon. Brin founded Bayshore Global Management in 2006 to oversee and preserve his family’s wealth. The pilots have not yet been identified.
Residential structure fire
The Santa Rosa Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 1817 Fenwick Dr., Tuesday May 16. During the response we were advised of multiple 911 callers reporting the fire. The first fire units arrived within five minutes and found a single-story home with heavy smoke and fire coming from the garage area of the home. Additional fire engines were requested upon arrival due to the large volume of fire and threat to nearby homes. The first arriving engine worked to knock fire down between homes, while additional crews attacked the fire in the garage area and searched for any possible victims.

Santa Rosa Police Opening Substation in Roseland
The Santa Rosa Police Department is planning to bring a police substation to Roseland. Supporters of the plan say it would improve services in the historically underserved, predominantly Latino community. The Santa Rosa Police Department says the substation would also shorten response times in the southwest part of the city. And, Roseland residents would be able to get police assistance closer to home instead of having to travel to police headquarters across town. The substation would be in the building currently housing the Roseland library branch.
