Suspect who led police on hours-long chase last Friday shot at woman, remains in critical condition

( KRON ) — The suspect in an hours-long chase across multiple Bay Area counties last Friday shot at a woman on the freeway earlier in the day and remains in critical condition, officials said Tuesday. According to the Solano County District Attorney, the suspect, a 40-year-old Rohnert Park man, led police in a chase across three Bay Area counties.

That chase culminated in an hours-long standoff that closed I-80 in Solano County for several hours in both directions. Prior to that, a woman reported to law enforcement that she’d been shot at on Highway 101 near Santa Rosa.

She was not injured.

Officers located the vehicle involved in the shooting a couple of hours later in the Rohnert Park area, the DA said. The driver refused to comply with officer commands and fled the scene.

The ensuing chase spanned over 80 miles and crossed through three counties before ending up on I-80 in Fairfield. This resulted in a standoff lasting over two hours and involving officers from the California Highway Patrol, Fairfield Police Department, and Solano County Sheriff’s Office.

Police attempted to communicate with the suspect, issuing clear commands and utilizing de-escalation techniques, the DA said. The driver refused to comply. Currently, he is in critical condition after suffering a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

An independent investigation has been launched by the Solano County Major Crimes Task Force into the incident. Due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, the Solano County DA declined to release additional details.
