Santa Rosa man arrested on 9 warrants after deputies use PIT maneuver

( KRON ) — A Santa Rosa man with multiple warrants from four local police agencies was arrested Monday on a number of charges after leading police officers on a chase, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office.

On Monday just before 11 p.m., a SCSO deputy spotted a vehicle known to be associated with a man with multiple warrants on the 3000 block of Cleveland Avenue in Santa Rosa. The driver, identified as Roy Jones Jr., 54, of Santa Rosa, refused to pull over once the deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, the sheriff's office said.

Jones Jr. led two deputies in a pursuit through northwest Santa Rosa, the Junior College neighborhood, and into Montgomery Village while driving against traffic, running stop signs and speeding, authorities said.

A pursuit intervention technique, also known as a PIT maneuver, was successfully performed by one of the deputies at the intersection of Farmers Lane and Sonoma Avenue. After Jones Jr.'s car was disabled, he began to run and resisted the deputies who were arresting him, SCSO said.

Jones Jr. was booked into jail for nine outstanding warrants from four different agencies, felony evading police with disregard for the public's safety, felony evading police and driving against traffic, misdemeanor resisting arrest and misdemeanor reckless driving. According to the sheriff's office, Jones Jr. is being held without bail from two felony no-bail warrants.
