    BREAKING: Actor Dabney Coleman dies at 92 after career as multiple movie villains

    Actor Dabney Coleman, who famously specialized in villains like the boss in 9 to 5 and the nasty TV director in Tootsie has died at the age of 92.

    The beloved actor passed away Thursday at his home in Santa Monica, California his daughter, Quincy Coleman, confirmed in a statement to The Associated Press. She told the news outlet that at the time of his death Coleman “took his last earthly breath peacefully and exquisitely.”

    Over the years Coleman starred in over 40 movies and was famously loved for his incredible talent to portray smarmy villains. Some of his most well-known roles throughout his acting career included his characters in 9 to 5, On Golden Pond, Tootsie, WarGames, Cloak & Dagger, The Muppets Take Manhattan, The Beverly Hillbillies, You've Got Mail, Inspector Gadget, Recess: School's Out, Moonlight Mile, and Rules Don't Apply.

    During his successful run in Hollywood , Coleman was awarded a number of prestigious awards including a Golden Globe for his role in The Slap Maxwell Story and an Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actor in Peter Levin’s 1987 legal drama Sworn to Silence. More recently, Coleman was awarded two Screen Actors Guild Awards for his iconic roles in Ray Donovan and Boardwalk Empire.

    Since the devastating news of Coleman's death broke, fans and fellow actors have taken to social media sharing an outpour of love for the talented star. In a heartwarming tribute, actor Ben Stiller wrote on X, formerly Twitter: “The great Dabney Coleman literally created, or defined, really — in a uniquely singular way — an archetype as a character actor. He was so good at what he did it’s hard to imagine movies and television of the last 40 years without him."

    James Wood, who worked alongside Coleman voice acting for the hit children's movie Recess: School's Out also took to social media to pay his respects to his former co-star and longtime friend. The actor posted on X: "I’ve gone to Dan Tana’s restaurant regularly all my adult life. Dabney Coleman was always there, sitting in booth number one (appropriately), having his trademark steak. I had always loved him as an actor, and loved him more as we became friends. ##RIPDabneyColeman.”

    And Coleman's former co-star on the hit movie Madman of the People sweetly wrote: “As a kid I don’t think I found any villain more likable than mean Dabney Coleman. We shared a birthday. Months after my dad passed away, Dabney played my dad for the 1st time. We had countless dinners together. He was a complicated, hilarious genius who was so sweet to my mom.”
