A simulated drunk driving crash in the parking lot at San Clemente High School was the focal point last week of the “Every 15 Minutes” program on campus that was conducted by the California Highway Patrol to demonstrate the impact that drinking and driving can have on friends, family and the community.

Quaint, delicious, locally owned, the French eatery is a wonderful place to grab a bite, warm the soul, and nibble on some local nostalgia. Located on Del Prado Avenue, the building that Bonjour Cafe is situated in holds a very special place in surf history. It’s the former offices and studio of Bruce Brown Films—which would change the culture and sport of surfing with the release of Brown’s seminal The Endless Summer. Released in 1964, the film turns 60 years old this year.
Arts & Culture Committee Seeks Performing Arts Venue
The San Clemente City Council at its Tuesday, March 5 meeting approved the 2024 Work Plan for the city’s Arts and Culture Committee by a 4-1 vote. In its inaugural year, the committee will establish subcommittees to further evaluate options for a performing arts center in town, revitalizing public arts displays, identifying musicians for live entertainment events, and updating policy related to implementing art in public places. Councilmember Chris Duncan was the only councilmember against advancing the work plan as written.

Dana Hills High School’s first graduating classes are set for an expanded 50th anniversary reunion celebration this fall. Prior to Dana Hills’ founding in 1973, high school students of the tri-city South County area attended San Clemente High School. Then, with the creation of Dana Hills High, the senior, junior and sophomore classes of 1974, 1975 and 1976 were split between Dana Hills and San Clemente. The freshman classes of 1977 – the first four-year class at Dana Hills – went straight from junior high to either Dana Hills or San Clemente.
