PHOTOS: Group steals wine coolers from Speedway gas station in Halifax County, deputies say
ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. (WNCN) – The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a group of people who deputies said stole from a retail store last month. On April 14, the sheriff’s office responded to a larceny that occurred at the Speedway gas station located on West 10th Street just outside of Roanoke Rapids. The suspects took wine coolers from the store by hiding the drinks and leaving without paying.
Woman hits fast-food worker with honey mustard sauce
Selinsgrove, Pa. — A North Carolina woman was cited after she allegedly got mad and threw a cup of honey mustard sauce at a woman working at the Dairy Queen drive-thru in Monroe Township. Toneika Askew, 34, of Ahoskie, N.C., came through the drive-thru of the restaurant on North Susquehanna Trail around 1:30 p.m. April 30. Trp. Jacob Kozma of state police at Selinsgrove said she became mad and started shouting at the workers. That's when she took the cup of honey mustard sauce and threw it through the drive-thru window, hitting a 50-year-old worker inside, Kozma said. Police cited Askew with disorderly conduct through the office of District Judge Scott A. Zeigler in Selinsgrove.
Enfield home hit by bullets early Wednesday morning, police say
ENFIELD, N.C. (WNCN) — Police are investigating a shooting that caused damage to a residence in an Enfield neighborhood early Wednesday morning. Around 3:30 a.m. officers were called to the area of Sherrod Heights regarding shots that were fired. Officers said they located the residence and found that bullets had penetrated the occupied home.

Social Media posts appear to show walkout at BHS
Details are scarce, but multiple social media posts have shown students at Bertie High School apparently participating in a walk out. The posts say the incident centers around the school system’s alleged dismissal of BHS football coach Darius Wesson and, possibly basketball coach Johnnie Rascoe. Both coaches have said on social media they were removed from their positions with the school. Social media posts reviewed by the Bertie Ledger-Advance show students in the hallways of the school with posters. There is also a strong police presence at the school.
