Turner McCall Closings to Begin Monday Night
By Adam Carey, fileFrom staff reports,

Nighttime closures of a key portion of Turner McCall Boulevard are expected to run through the end of the week, although rain could affect the construction schedule.
Crews are planning to work from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. on a water main replacement in front of Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center. Traffic will be shut down in the construction area, which extends from the empty lot next to Bojangles, across the street from the hospital.
The intersection at Martha Berry Boulevard will not be affected and there will be signs indicating detours for other routes.
Inbound traffic will be sent down Second Avenue, where drivers can circle around the rear of the hospital to get back onto Turner McCall or continue to Broad Street downtown.
Outbound vehicles will be redirected up Fifth Avenue, before the Publix Shopping Center, and up toward Martha Berry Boulevard.
Westbound commercial traffic must use Ga. 53 to Veterans Memorial Highway while eastbound commercial traffic must use Redmond Circle to Ga. 53.
Workers are replacing a 12-inch water main on Turner McCall Boulevard as part of the Second Avenue widening project.
Plans call for two lanes running in each direction, separated by a median that allows for turns into the Atrium Health Floyd campus and Heritage Park. The three-way split at the intersection of Turner McCall and Martha Berry will be eliminated.
According to the Georgia Department of Transportation, once the utilities are relocated, C.W. Matthews Contracting Co. will begin stage one of construction. That will include a northbound traffic shift to the inside lane of North Second Avenue beginning at West Third Street and extending to the Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center receiving entrance. The outside lane will be closed.
The entire project has an estimated completion date of Sept. 29, 2026, at a cost of $26.2 million.
