Umi Sushi & Seafood Buffet "coming soon" to Rockville
Umi Sushi & Seafood Buffet is "coming soon" to 1471 Rockville Pike, according to a banner posted at the building. The large space was previously home to Miller's Ale House over the last decade. Umi promises "the largest and most elegant Chinese, Japanese and American cuisine restaurant." It appears to be a chain with locations in Brooklyn, Queens, and Brandon, Florida.
Sides BBQ & Catering is Looking For a New Home
Sides BBQ & Catering is looking for a new home after operating as an “ghost kitchen” out of Sam’s Pizza at 15855 Redland Rd in Derwood since last August. Sam’s Pizza was recently sold and will operate as Charlie Pizza and Subs starting next week. The change will move forward without Sides BBQ & Catering as part of the equation, according to announcement Sides made on social media:

Privai Spa Closes Kentlands Location
Privai Spa has closed its Kentlands location at 62 Market St, an associate from the Pike & Rose location confirmed (Pike & Rose location remains open). The 7,425 SF space, which is now listed as available for lease by Saul Centers, was previously home to Mynd Spa and Red Door Spa. The associate informed us that the location has been closed for “at least a couple weeks.”
Olney Ale House Building Sold for $1.45 Million; New Owners Plan to Reopen in About a Year
The 100-year old building that is home to the Olney Ale House has been sold to Two Sibs LLC, led by Selim Kantar, for $1.45 million, according to the deed. Olney Ale House, located at 2000 Olney Sandy Spring Rd (Rt. 108 and Doctor Bird Rd.), operated in the space until a kitchen fire caused the restaurant to shut down in 2019. In September, we spoke with previous owner John Rich who told us he was interested in selling to someone that would continue to run it as the Olney Ale House restaurant. We spoke with Kantar today, who told us that he will be doing just that.

Charlie’s Pizza and Subs to Take Over Sam’s Pizza in Derwood
Charlie’s Pizza and Subs will be taking over the current Sam’s Pizza & Subs location at 15855 Redland Rd (off of Frederick Rd) in Derwood. The sale became official as of Wednesday March 14, 2023, but the restaurant will continue to operate as Sam’s until March 29, 2023 when the name officially changes to Charlie’s Pizza and Subs.
