A group of Maryland middle schoolers stopped a kidnapping suspect from abducting one of their classmates at a Gaithersburg bus stop, according to Montgomery County Police.
MCFRS Respond to Collision With Overturned Vehicle Wednesday Evening
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services responded to a two vehicle collision on Randolph Road, near Glenmont Circle, around 8pm on Wednesday, March 22. According to public safety reporter Cordell Pugh, one sedan overturned onto its roof and only minor injuries were reported. Both involved vehicles were towed from the scene. A Montgomery County, Maryland, health officer praised the Quince Orchard High School students who acted to help another, who reportedly had an overdose on Tuesday. “We do want to commend the students,” said Dr. Kisha Davis, referring to the incident Tuesday inside a McDonald’s bathroom across the street from the school.

Macy's has confirmed that four of its locations will close by April 2023. Macy's had already closed dozens of stores in the past years and plans to close around 125 stores, or a fifth of its locations, over a three-year period. The four locations closing are in California, Colorado, Hawaii, and Maryland.
Development of former Nike missile site in Gaithersburg to include 380 multi-family dwelling units
A proposal for a residential community on the former Nike missile site in Gaithersburg was unanimously approved by officials at the Mayor and City Council meeting Monday. The proposal, presented by Clarksburg-based Pleasants Development Inc., includes up to 380 multi-family units across four development blocks with a height of up to five stories. The approximately 13.71 acres at 770 Muddy Branch Road will include 40% green space and include gathering areas, open lawns and sports courts, according to officials. The site will also include up to 15% Moderately Priced Dwelling Units (MPDUs).
MCFRS Respond to Fire at Gaithersburg Apartment Building
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a fire at the Streamside Apartments on the 300 blk of N. Summit Ave, near Girard St, in Gaithersburg around 9am on Tuesday, March 22. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, the “small” fire was located on the 3rd floor of the building around a ceiling exhaust fan. The fire has been extinguished and there were no injuries reported. One family has likely been displaced. We will post an update if additional information becomes available.
Olney Ale House Building Sold for $1.45 Million; New Owners Plan to Reopen in About a Year
The 100-year old building that is home to the Olney Ale House has been sold to Two Sibs LLC, led by Selim Kantar, for $1.45 million, according to the deed. Olney Ale House, located at 2000 Olney Sandy Spring Rd (Rt. 108 and Doctor Bird Rd.), operated in the space until a kitchen fire caused the restaurant to shut down in 2019. In September, we spoke with previous owner John Rich who told us he was interested in selling to someone that would continue to run it as the Olney Ale House restaurant. We spoke with Kantar today, who told us that he will be doing just that.
Quince Orchard High School student treated with Narcan after overdose during lunch
Police in Gaithersburg are investigating a drug overdose they say took place at a popular lunch spot for high school students. A Quince Orchard High School student was found unconscious Tuesday inside the McDonald's bathroom. Police said a Good Samaritan administered Narcan, and now that student is recovering in a local hospital. FOX 5's Nana-Sentuo Bonsu reports with the latest details.

Silver Spring resident Javier Reyes, 21, and Brian Gaitan-Sanchez, 20, of Bladensburg, were both arrested this week following an investigation into the fatal shooting of Walter Woods, authorities announced on Tuesday, March 21.

Police Investigating Fatal Collision That Occurred Early Wednesday Morning
Montgomery County Police are investigating a fatal collision that occurred at approximately 12:27 a.m. on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 in Darnestown. According to MCPD, “The preliminary investigation has revealed that the driver of a gray Toyota 4Runner was traveling west in the 14400 block of Turkey Foot Road. For reasons that are still under investigation, the Toyota left the roadway and struck multiple trees, causing the vehicle to overturn. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The Montgomery County Department of Police, Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating this collision. A news release will be distributed once more information is available, including the name of the deceased following proper notification of next of kin.”
