Update: Gaithersburg Teen Shot and Killed Sunday Night; Reward of up to $10,000 Offered for Information Leading to Arrest
Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division are investigating a homicide that occurred on Sunday, March 26, 2023, at an apartment building on Treetop Lane in Silver Spring. At approximately 7:20 p.m., 3rd District officers responded to 2001 Treetop Lane for the report of a shooting.
White’s Ferry Update: Rockland Farm Rejects $1.1M Offer, Kuhn Looks to Sell Ferry to Montgomery County
The owners of White’s Ferry have announced that Rockland Farm, the Virginia landing site for the ferry, have rejected a $1.1 million dollar offer to purchase the site. According to a press release, the offer included funds from White’s Ferry’s owners, both Montgomery and Loudoun Counties, and additional funds from Herb Brown, the original ferry owner. White’s Ferry ceased operations back in December 2020 over a legal dispute with Rockland Farms.
Man dead following shooting in Montgomery Co.
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — Police officers in Montgomery Co. are investigating a shooting that left a man dead. Officers responded to the 2000 block of Treetop Lane in Silver Spring minutes before 7:30 p.m. on Sunday. When police arrived they found a man suffering from trauma to the upper body. Despite trying to provide life-saving efforts, the victim was later pronounced dead at the scene, according to officials.

Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Special Victims Investigations Division (SVID) are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a missing 8-year-old from Gaithersburg. Miriam Garcia was last seen on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at approximately 6:15 p.m., outside of her residence on Marshall St. in Gaithersburg. Miriam is 3-feet, 6-inches tall and weighs approximately 115 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a white jacket and black/white tie dye pants.

Two-Car Collision Sends Three To The Hospital in Germantown on Sunday Night
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a two-car collision on Frederick Rd and Plummer Drive in Germantown at approximately 8pm on Sunday night. According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, crash debris was spread out approximately 150 yards following the crash. The fuel tank of one of the vehicles ruptured, but the gas was contained with absorbent with some lanes temporarily blocked. Three people were transported to the hospital, all with non life-threatening injuries.
Turbulence Ruled Out as Flight Issues Cause Jolts That Killed Montgomery County Woman on Flight
Turbulence has been ruled out as the cause of Montgomery County woman’s death earlier this month after pilots told investigators they did not encounter turbulence on the flight, providing an update to the early statements from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) from a preliminary assessment the day after the crash. According to FOX5, “investigators said Friday that a passenger on a business jet was fatally injured in early March when the aircraft violently bucked up and down after pilots disconnected a system used to stabilize the plane.”

Lt. Franco Martinez of Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) has addressed multiple calls regarding smoke or a smokey smell in various parts of the county. Per Lt. Martinez, “Is there something in the air in Montgomery County? Apparently there is. Our department is getting multiple calls for smoke in the area. Police ID pedestrian killed on Columbia Pike in Silver Spring
SILVER SPRING, Md. - Authorities have identified the pedestrian who was struck and killed over the weekend on a Montgomery County roadway. Police say Zelalem Yirga Adamu, 40, of Laurel was struck by two vehicles that were traveling northbound on Columbia Pike near Hillwood Drive in Silver Spring early Saturday morning around 1:50 a.m.

Fire officials investigating reports of smoke odor across DC region
Reports of smoke and the smell of rubber inundated fire department call centers in Southern Maryland and D.C. on Monday morning. From St. Mary’s to Prince George’s counties, to the District, crews are searching for a source of what’s being described as an “electrical fire smell.”
