ROCKFORD, Ill (WTVO) — Rockford Police arrested Anquan Tate, 34, for allegedly slapping and strangling a woman in the back of a car.

On April 20th, around 3:03 p.m., police responded to the 3000 block of Jean Street for a domestic violence call that occurred in the 2800 block of Summerdale Avenue.

The woman explained to officials she went to Tate’s mother’s house for a party the day before when she got off work around 4 p.m. The victim said she ended up in a car with the suspect and another woman between 1 and 4 a.m., according to court documents.

Tate became upset with something that was said and slapped the victim, according to authorities. Tate and the other woman started pulling her hair and then Tate choked her unconscious, police said.

The victim told authorities that Tate had stolen her iPhone, link card, and her purse.

Tate is being charged with other prior domestic battery as well as domestic battery and strangulation
