TROY (WWJ) -- A Rochester Hills man was arrested last weekend after police said he was caught driving while super drunk, and without a driver's license, in Troy.

At around 1:15 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, Troy Police said a call came in from a witness who reported seeing a suspected drunk driver at a gas station in the 3400 block of Rochester Road.

The caller said the man was lying in the parking lot of the gas station, and trying to crawl to a car.

When officers arrived, they saw the suspect vehicle, a gray Ford Focus, leaving the parking lot and made a traffic stop.

Officers spoke with the driver, identified a 49-year-old man from Rochester Hills, and "noted his eyes were red, bloodshot, and glassy, and there was an odor of intoxicants emanating from the vehicle," according to the police report.

After performing poorly on a series of sobriety tests, police said the man took a blew a .261% BAC on a breathalyzer test. That's more than three times the legal limit to drive in Michigan.

The driver was arrested and taken to the Troy Police lock-up where a Chemical Breath Test showed results of .242% and .246% BAC.

Police said the man was issued a citation for Operating with a Blood Alcohol Content of .17% or More and Driver’s License Required: Drove While Unlicensed. His name was not immediately released.

Under Michigan's "Super Drunk Laws," drivers with a BAC more than twice the state's legal limit of .08% face stiffer penalties, including up to 180 days in jail if convicted.
