DETROIT (WWJ) — A police standoff on Detroit's west side Tuesday afternoon has ended with the suspect dead.

The barricaded gunman situation began just after 1:30 p.m. in the 9100 block of Carlin Street, near Schaefer and Joy, according to Detroit Police Deputy Chief Arnold Williams .

WWJ's Charlie Langton reported about 8:30 p.m. that the suspect had been found dead inside the home. No circumstances surrounding his death have been disclosed by Detroit police.

It was not immediately clear whether anyone else was inside the home or if any other injuries were reported.

Police officials had been asking those who live in the area to stay inside and others to avoid coming to the area as the situation unfolded.

Authorities said earlier in the day the suspect shot at the victim, hitting them three times. The victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries to both legs.

Police did not release any information about the victim or what led to the shooting.

A witness told police they saw the man who fired shots run inside a home shortly after the shooting. Officers arrived and secured the scene, setting up a perimeter around the home and declaring a barricaded gunman situation, Williams said around 3:20 p.m.

No description of the suspect was released.

It was not immediately clear what led to the shooting or if the suspect and victim knew each other.
