(WWJ) The Oxford High School shooter has been moved to a prison on the west side of the state.

According to a spokesman for the Michigan Department of Corrections, Ethan Crumbley, who is now-18-years old, has been moved to the protective housing unit at Oaks Correctional Facility in Manistee.

That area is used for those inmates the corrections department determines should not be placed in the general population due to factors such as notoriety, or documented protection needs.

Before turning 18, Crumbley was in the Thumb Correctional Facility in Lapeer. But he is no longer eligible to be house in that unit, the spokesman said.

Crumbley pleaded guilty two years ago to first degree murder, terrorism and other charges related to the November, 2021, Oxford High School shooting that left four students dead and seven others wounded.

He was sentenced to life in prison, without a chance for parole.

Crumbley's parents has both since been convicted by separate juries of involuntary manslaughter, after prosecutors argued that the couple ignored their son's mental health struggles and bought him a gun.
