Ludington native honored for his work to preserve the East Ludington Avenue Historic District
On Thursday, Lt. Governor Garlin Gilchrist II awarded four Michigan preservation projects for the Governor’s Awards for Historic Preservation during a ceremony hosted by the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO). Ludington native Raymond Madsen was honored for his preservation efforts on East Ludington Avenue. East Ludington Avenue has served as the gateway into Ludington since before the era of the automobile. In the late 1800s, it was home to ship captains and lumbering families who built impressive Queen Anne and Classical Revival mansions. Tight Lines for Troops seeks donations, volunteers so vets can get the event they deserve
MANISTEE — Tight Lines for Troops is only two weeks away, and organizers are asking for help. The nonprofit started in 2010 and brings veterans together for a friendly fishing competition. Hundreds of vets fish the local waters of Manistee Lake, Manistee River and even out into Lake Michigan. Organizers say they have about half the donations they had received by this time last year, and they’re short of the 200 volunteers needed for the event. Whatever happens, they said the show will go on because of what it means for the veterans.
Onekama village reels from intense storm, egg-sized hail causes extensive damage
MANISTEE COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- The Village of Onekama is cleaning up after getting egg-sized hail from a Saturday night storm. “The noise, the continuous wind speed and size of the hail, I’ve never seen anything like it,” Onekama Resident Rick Rowe said. “It was exactly like something you’d see watching a Discovery Channel show on natural disasters or the Weather Channel.”
Lakeshore Blessing of the Bikes cancelled after threat, Baldwin says their Blessing is still on
BALDWIN, Mich. — Organizers from Baldwin's Blessing of the Bikes, which attracts more than 6,000 bikers annually, responded to the cancellation of the lakeshore blessing. "I'd like to say that's too bad that happened in Holland, because I am originally from Holland," said Marlene Gaitan, one of the organizers of the Baldwin blessing. "But we are not doing anything different as of yet. But we do have local sheriff as well as other sheriff agencies from around the county, so we have various counties that are helping us."

MANISTEE COUNTY -- A community is trying to recover after a powerful weekend hailstorm caused major damage to homes and businesses. The storm happened in Onekama Township in Manistee County Saturday night after 9 pm. Onekama Township’s Fire Chief, confirming Monday that the Portage Lake area was hit the hardest. Many homeowners we spoke to say they’ve never experienced anything like it. Mike Haske has lived at this home in Onekama township since 1999 with his wife, Amy. He said the storm packed a powerful punch.

One man in custody after incident at Ludington Comfort Inn
UPDATE 4/23/24 9:29 p.m. LUDINGTON — Sheriff Kim Cole tells 9&10 News a 40-year-old Pinconning man is in custody for two counts of felony assault and one count of brandishing a weapon. Sheriff Cole said the man was alone in a room at the Comfort Inn, and negotiators talked him into coming out of his room. There were no shots fired, and no injures reported.
