Instead, they say straight-line winds from a strong downburst thunderstorm, with peak winds estimated to be between 80 to 85 mph, caused serious damage in portions of Berkeley and Dorchester counties.

Historic Charleston elementary school to open as affordable senior housing
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - The former Henry P. Archer Elementary School will open as an 89-unit affordable housing complex for seniors in a ribbon cutting Thursday. The new housing complex offers one and two-bed units. Seniors aged 55 and up who live with incomes of 30%, 60% or 80% of the Area Median Income are eligible to rent units in the building. The highest income limit for a potential resident at 80% is a little over $50,000.
