These 5 N.J. kids are headed to Scripps National Spelling Bee
Five of New Jersey’s top young spellers are headed to Maryland later this month to compete in the 96th Scripps National Spelling Bee, contest officials announced Thursday. The 2024 Scripps National Spelling Bee — which will be held in National Harbor, Maryland, from May 28 to 30 — includes a field of 245 competitors, officials said. It is the largest bee since 2019.

ELIZABETH, NJ — A Plainfield man was recently sentenced to 40 years in state prison for the strangulation death of his girlfriend in 2020, Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel and Plainfield Police Director James T. Abney announced today. On July 11, 2023 Bryan Gonzalez Martines, age 24, was found guilty of first-degree murder before Union County Superior Court Judge Thomas Isenhour.
