Meigs County Farmers Market takes second place in America's Farmers Market Celebration
WASHINGTON, D.C. — American Farmland Trust and the Farmers Market Coalition recently announced that the Meigs County Farmers Market in Pomeroy placed second in the 15th annual America’s Farmers Market Celebration, a national event honoring the role of farmers markets that ran between June 21–Sept. 18. Weekly Safety Report: Coolville Resident Arrested for Illegal Burning, Disorderly Incident Reported in Nelsonville
A Coolville resident was arrested and charged with illegal burning after allegedly dumping and burning trash on his property. The incident was reported to the Athens County Sheriff's Office, who discovered approximately 200 tires adjacent to the property. The sheriff's office was assisted by the Athens County Prosecutor's Office and Ohio Adult Parole Authority.
Football: Ohio forces four turnovers in 38-7 win over Bowling Green
Five games through the 2023 season, Ohio has made its mark as a top-25 defense. Despite grabbing signature performances from the defense in virtually every game, the stellar unit still found a way to make an even greater effect. Not only did Ohio's defense shut down Bowling Green in its 38-7 win, but it also forced four turnovers, sacked quarterback Connor Bazelak three times and forced Bowling Green's offense into five tackles for loss.

Commission holds resource fair for vets. On Thursday evening the Hocking County Veterans’ Service Commission held a Veterans’ Resource Fair. The event, which was free to attend, drew a large number of veterans of wars as far back as World War II. Learn more on page A5. Roll out your tires. The Athens-Hocking Solid Waste District has announced its upcoming Fall Recycling Days. The Hocking County event is set for Saturday, Oct. 14 at the Hocking County Fairgrounds will feature drop-off for scrap tires for 50 cents per tire and $4 for tires with rims. Learn more on page A5. Recreation development group asks county to join. Hocking County has been invited to join the Outdoor Recreational Council of Appalachia (ORCA), a multi-county organization that works to develop outdoor recreational opportunities in the region across government boundaries. Volleyball: Ohio secures its first conference win against Akron. After their disappointing loss on Friday, Ohio bounced back with a 3-1 victory. The Bobcats ended their losing streak at home this weekend with incredible performances by Anna Kharchynska and Caitlin O’Farrell. The two led the team and made a huge contribution to the win. It was a competitive first two sets with the lead going back and forth between teams. Ohio took the first set, Akron took the second, but the Bobcats ultimately dominated the final two.
