Coolville man receives 20 to life prison sentence for rapes
ATHENS, Ohio — A Coolville man received 20 years to life in prison following his conviction of 10 counts of first-degree felony rape. Joshua D. Murphy, 35, of Coolville, was sentenced to a mandatory prison term of 20 years to life in the State Penal System on May 1.

Former nursing home employee claims she was fired for reporting understaffing
A former employee of an area nursing home is alleging that her employer violated Ohio’s whistleblower protection law, by firing her for raising concerns about nurse understaffing and resident safety. Mason County Schools to join Toyota West Virginia’s 4T Academy in upcoming school year
CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Mason County Schools now makes the newest addition to Toyota’s work-based learning program for upper-class high school students. Toyota West Virginia welcomed Mason County to its 4T Academy during a ceremony at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center Wednesday. It makes the third school system to join the academy behind Kanawha and Putnam county schools after Toyota established the program in the state in 2022.
New mural on East State Street
Mandi “Miss Birdy” Caskey’s outline for a mural on the East State St./Route 33 Underpass waits to be painted. On Monday night and during the weekend, Caskey completed the first steps in painting the mural, which was commissioned by Athens County Children Services. According to the agency, the mural will represent the Children Services’ history and recognize what the community does for each other, and for children.
