New blood pressure hub opens in Salem
It’s estimated by the American Heart Association that almost half of American adults have high blood pressure, many of whom don’t show symptoms. To help combat this health issue, a free blood pressure hub was installed by the American Heart Association on Nov. 4 in the Salem Community Center.

Sharon (PA) Regional Moving ER Patients as Hospital Begins Closing Process
SHARON — Sharon Regional Health System’s time as an operating hospital is dwindling. Frank Jannetti, Mercer County director of public safety, told The Herald he was informed the embattled Sharon hospital would close at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The lights at the hospital went out just before 7 p.m.

Akron General doctor named AAP community pediatrician of the year
A Cleveland Clinic Akron General doctor has been named the Ohio Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics' 2026 community pediatrician of the year. Dr. Maureen Ahmann is the hospital's department of pediatrics chair and the Stark County Health Department's medical director. She received the award for her commitment to children's health in the Akron area, according to a news release. The award is given to a physician or partner each year to recognize their community commitment and work improving the health and safety of Ohio's adolescents. Ahmann started Akron's Grow with Us Garden outside her clinic, which she uses to provide patients and their families free fruits, vegetables and herbs. It's also used to teach families how to grow food at home. She has been in practice for over 20 years, the release said. "We are proud to honor Dr. Ahmann for her commitment to public health and to expanding access to healthy food for families," Melissa Wervey Gittelman, CEO of Ohio AAP said in the release. "This award recognizes her innovation and her work helping families discover sustainable ways to be healthy." Free Diabetes Screening but Space is Limited
A free diabetes screening event is coming up Saturday at Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital in Dover, in recognition of Diabetes Awareness Month. Union Hospital Community Health and Wellness Nurse Mindy Hoopingarner says the event runs from 8 to 11:30 Saturday morning in Reeves Auditorium and will include A-1-C blood sugar testing, blood pressure checks, and foot and eye exams.

Sharon Regional emergency department closed: Staff shortage blamed
SHARON - Sharon Regional Hospital closed its emergency department at 7 p.m. Wednesday due to what hospital officials say was an unexpected staffing shortage.
