UPDATE: (10:46 p.m. Wednesday, April 17) — Two firefighters who were injured while fighting a brush fire Wednesday, have been released from the hospital.
The Point Pleasant Volunteer Fire Department says that the two were taken to the hospital after dealing with smoke inhalation. They were fighting a brush fire in the Redmond Ridge area, which is south of Point Pleasant.
POINT PLEASANT, WV (WOWK) – Two firefighters are recovering after experiencing medical emergencies on duty in Mason County, West Virginia.
According to the Point Pleasant Fire Department, crews were on the scene of a brush fire in the Redmond Ridge area south of Point Pleasant in Mason County when the medical emergencies happened.

The PPFD says the two firefighters were taken to area hospitals by ambulance. One has since been treated at Rivers Health in Point Pleasant and has been released, but the other is still receiving treatment at Cabell Huntington Hospital and is stable.
“We are thanking the Good Lord this evening as two of our young Firefighters were taken from the scene of a brush fire on Redmond Ridge by ambulance to area hospitals,” Point Pleasant Fire Chief Jeremy Bryant said in a post on the PPFD Facebook page. “Fighting any fire can be dangerous but in today’s case fighting a brush fire in very windy conditions proved to cause medical emergencies as they were overcome by heat and smoke.”
The fire department says they are thankful for the community’s prayers, and say both firefighters should “recover just fine.”
