911 officials say Nebraska outage caused by fiber cut in Kansas City
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - A fiber line cut in Kansas City made for a stressful night at local 911 offices in Nebraska and other states. Kyle Kramer, the technical manager for Douglas County’s 911 center, said in an update Thursday to local news media that Lumen reported that a third-party contractor was doing work not related to any telecommunication function and hit a fiber that was buried. The Associated Press reported that the workers were installing a light pole in Missouri when they cut into a fiber line.

Council Bluffs man sentenced to federal prison for illegal firearm possession
COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (WOWT) - A man learned his sentence in federal court for illegally having a gun. Keshawn Houtz-Mayfield, 21, was sentenced to 27 months in federal prison for prohibited possession of a firearm by a felon. He will be required to serve three years on supervised releasing at the conclusion of his prison time.
